Sock knitting is near and dear to my heart, so it’s only fitting that during our annual Sock-stravaganza update, we introduce not one, but two new bases—both absolutely perfect for sock knitting! 🧦
And if you're looking to spice up your sock game, I’ve included some easy tips below for transforming your classic vanilla socks into vibrant, head-turning works of art.

Meet Plush Fingering and Plush DK
We’re thrilled to welcome a brand new sock yarn to the Plucky lineup—Plush, and let me tell you, it lives up to its name!
Made from 80% Superwash U.S. Merino and 20% Cashstyle Nylon, this base combines a dreamy soft hand with the strength every sock knitter craves. Plush bridges the gap between our extra-sturdy Feet Fingering and the ultra-soft Primo blends. These new bases are not only easy to work with, but they also take color beautifully!
Plush is wonderfully versatile—not just for socks, but perfect for baby knits, lacy shawls, and textured or cabled projects, too. The stitch definition? Chef’s kiss.
So, What Is Cashstyle Nylon?
Cashstyle Nylon is a special type of nylon engineered to mimic the luxurious feel of cashmere while still adding the durability nylon is known for. It brings the best of both worlds to soft yarns like Merino, making them both buttery-soft and suitably strong.
How to Make Your Vanilla Socks Pop!
Do you ever find yourself bored while knitting plain vanilla socks but still love the ease of mindless, portable projects? Here are a few of my go-to ways to add flair with minimal effort:
1. Bold Heels and Toes
One of the easiest (and most fun!) ways to liven up a vanilla sock is by knitting the heels and toes in a contrasting color. It adds a playful twist without changing your pattern at all.
2. Colorful Cuffs
Start with your pop of color right from the cast-on! Work a few rounds—or even the entire cuff—in your contrast shade before switching to your main color. It's a small change with big impact.
3. Sporty Stripes
Team cuff-down? Me too! I love adding a couple of stripes just after the cuff and again before the toe. It adds visual interest and gives your socks a fun, sporty vibe.
4. Vibrant Yarns for the Win
When in doubt, let your yarn do the talking! A bold speckled or variegated skein can completely transform a vanilla sock. This is a great way to use those irresistible single skeins that jumped into your cart “by accident.” These projects practically knit themselves!
