Mixing It Up~

March 14th, 2008 by Sarah

There was this sale. This was no regular sale. More like a  swoon inducing sale. A curl your toes sale.    $98 100% cashmere wraps at Banana Republic  for $6.99.  You know how this is going to end, don’t you? I bought it, of course! I have to say –  this knitter could not pass up cashmere at $6.99.

Only problem (and I use the term “problem” very loosely) is the wrap was cream. This may not be an issue for some, but I don’t wear cream – it completely and totally  washes me out. But, as well all know, I dye all kinds of wool….  So, into the dye pot it went. And, voila!

This becomes…..

Retro  gravy boat. If you like quirky things… you must check this seller out.

This:

Shades of grey mixed with charcoal and eggplant. All things considered, I really am quite  pleased with results.

I know you are wondering about Lu. When I have a chance (perhaps this weekend) I will take a modeled picture of her.  Long story short – she’s too short and too wide. This, after a good blocking. But, I wonder if I caused the problem with blocking (and, if so, can it be fixed with another blocking)? Or,  did this occurr while knitting? Perhaps my gauge changed?

Waiting patiently for Spring

I have big feet ~

March 9th, 2008 by Sarah

Size 10 big.

Colinette Jitterbug is very nice yarn,  but the yardage can be little scarry for us gals with big feet. I had grand ideas of making No Purl Monkeys but was afraid of the yardage issues. What does a knitter with questions do? You go searching on Ravelry of course. Found these socks and sent Megan  a message to ask her about the yarn and how it worked for her, sharing  my concerns about the yardage. She was gracious enough to suggest sending me the  leftovers from her socks for a skein of Plucky yarn. Thus, a little swap was born.

She and her  Mom make soap.  Really, really  delicious (smelling – I’ve not done a taste test)  soap. So far I’ve only used the Peppermint Winds, but I’m over the moon and this will become a staple in the Plucky bathroom cupboard, for sure.

Speaking of swaps, Carrie –  an intrepid new knitter  (who also  happens to be an out of this world seamstress) and I worked out a little swap. Cashmere lace for some perky pouches. I couldn’t be more thrilled. And, they both match my new purse – bonus.

Up next: “Lu, please don’t do this to me, have I somehow  offended you?”

Did you know I have a cat?

Jasmine. She’s a bit evasive and skittish but even she  simply had to  stop and smell the flowers.

Having a little Saturday sale on all DK weight yarn  - in the sale section.
