Good Gravy Baby!!!

July 2nd, 2008 by Sarah

It’s another meme. Dee tagged me, so of course I will play along.

My Grandma Bev use to say “Good Gravy” all the time. I miss her and her crazy way with words…… What did your grandparents say?

LAST MOVIE YOU SAW IN A THEATRE? Indiana Jones. Hmmm. Let’s just say I like the first three the best.      WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING? - Certain Girls. Pure fluff. But fun.                       FAVOURITE BOARD GAME? - Trivial Pursuit. Hands down favorite.   FAVOURITE MAGAZINE? Martha Stewart (thank you Mary!!!), Real Simple and Vanity Fair.

FAVOURITE SMELLS? Coffee. Clean sheets. Peonies and lilacs (the flower, not the fake candle scent). The smell of the lake in the morning.

FAVOURITE SOUNDS? Crashing waves (or in absence of the sea, waves lapping up against the dock).  Breeze on a summer day. Screen/porch door clanging. Sam, sighing in his sleep. Shelbie laughing with a friend.

WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD? Helplessness.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE? Well, that was a bizarre dream.

FAVOURITE FAST FOOD PLACE? Qdoba

FUTURE CHILDS NAME? How about future dog’s name?

FINISH THIS STATEMENT—’IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY I’D…… Travel. Constantly. As in pick a destination, stay for a month or two or twelve and then pick another and so on……

DO YOU DRIVE FAST? I have been known to have a lead foot. I choose to blame it on my size 10 feet, they can’t help but be lead, right?

DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL? Does a live stuffed animal count? Sam sleeps in the crook of my knee. Ok. No, I don’t sleep with a stuffed animal, but I do have a baby blanket my Grandma made for me.

STORMS–COOL OR SCARY? Outstanding. In fact, we are having quite the storm as I type this.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR? 1986 Ford Escort. Manual transmission. Blue.

FAVOURITE DRINK? Vanilla Vodka and Diet Vernors or Peach Absolut and Diet Squirt/Fresca.

FINISH THIS STATEMENT-IF I HAD THE TIME I WOULD… Knit all the sweaters in my que.

DO YOU EAT THE STEMS ON BROCCOLI? Absolutely.  Love the veggies.

IF YOU COULD DYE YOUR HAIR ANY OTHER COLOUR, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE? Black.

NAME ALL THE DIFFERENT CITIES/TOWNS YOU HAVE LIVED IN? Hopkins, Hastings, Delton.

FAVOURITE SPORTS TO WATCH? Dee, what is snooker?

ONE NICE THING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Dee is a doll. Simply a doll. And, she is very person who encouraged me to begin blogging in the first place. Thank you Dee!

WHATS UNDER YOUR BED?
Books, off-season clothes and wrapping paper.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE BORN AS YOURSELF AGAIN? I say stick with what you know.

MORNING PERSON OR NIGHT OWL? I can get up well in the a.m., but I’m not necessarily chatty. Need to ease into the day, which can present a problem when Mr. Plucky is home. He is annoyingly chatty first thing in the morning.  Certainly not a night owl.

OVER EASY OR SUNNY SIDE UP? Scrambled, dry.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO RELAX? On the dock with Sam and the knitting.

FAVOURITE PIE? I’m with Tony – Apple Pie Ala Mode!

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOUR? French Mint or Island City Fudge

OF ALL THE PEOPLE YOU HAVE TAGGED, WHO IS THE MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND FIRST? If you are reading this, consider yourself tagged!!!

Handspun Eye Candy & Some Questions ~

June 10th, 2008 by Sarah

Ellen tagged me.

The rules: Are posted at the beginning. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blog and leaves a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

  • Ten years ago my only sister had just been married, Plucky girl was 6 (and was the toothless flower girl), I’d been married 7 years and was working as an executive assistant to the owners of a fire protection company and had NO idea how to knit or that I even wanted to learn.

2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today- not in any particular order?

  • Get on treadmill, do laundry, clean the house, go to the bank and make arrangements to get our A/C fixed.

3. Snacks I enjoy.

  • Dark chocolate. Spicy cilantro hummus. Fresh fruit. Fresh veggis. Ice Cream.

4. Places I’ve lived.

  • Michigan. Michigan and Michigan. How about places I’d love to live…. Now that’s quite a list.

5. Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

  • Buy a dumpy little cottage (with tons of character, of course) by the sea and fix it up. Make sure my family was taken care of. Travel. Travel. Travel. Give a bunch away.

6. What are some jobs you’ve had.

  • Babysitter, Rug Doctor character at a trade show (hey, I was 16 and it got us a trip to Chicago and San Francisco, right Niki?), assistant at a substance abuse clinic (among other things, I had to, um, watch the female participants deposit their samples to be sure they were theirs… and fresh), Executive Assistant, Office Manager.

7. People I want to know more about: Consider yourself tagged!

Inquiring minds want to know ~

April 21st, 2008 by Sarah

Another cowl.

  • Size 15 (10 mm) needles
  • Fingering weight yarn (held double). This yarn in the lovely Alice from Dee.
  • Cast on 72 sts *k1, yo, k2tog*  until you just can’t stand it anymore…. makes long loop that you wrap around your neck twice. Light, cozy and lovely. Took all of 2.5 hours. Instant gratification.

I really have to find another way to take pics….

I’m torn. Wondering if the sweater needs another decrease at the waist. I’m a tad concerned about the stretch potential of the 100% cotton yarn. While we’re at it…. another question. The sleeves - I’m thinking just a couple rows of 2 x 2 ribbing - which would end up matching the bottom hem. Keep it consistent?

As long as you’re answering all these questions:

Announcement & A Poll ~

February 6th, 2008 by Sarah

You guys are a very curious bunch. Hopefully this won’t come as some huge disappointment. Ok. With that said - are you ready?

First. Much to my delight and never-ending surprise my colorways have been going very quickly - which means I get quite a few requests for colorways that have come and gone. Because I hate to disappoint or have anyone feel like they have missed out on something I have decided to try something new. Limited edition colorways.  Six to eight colorways that will be available for approximately four to six weeks.  Then, an entire new set of limited editions, and so on. These limited edition colorways will be available in all my base yarns.

But (you knew there was a but coming, didn’t you?) because I love, adore and look forward to what I call “whatever happens, happens” dyeing (for the sake of ease, let’s call it serendipity dyeing, shall we?) I will still be doing my regular updates with the one-of-a-kinds.

Now, this is where you come in. What would you like to see first? What do you think- is this a good idea? Scroll down to the bottom and I have placed a handy dandy poll. How fun is that?

Then, I have one more fun thing to talk about tomorrow. This is all the excitment I could handle for today.

Summer of Love

Pewter & Pearls

Mansfield Park

Netherfield

North by Northwest

Esme

Dark Days

Pecan Sandies

So, what do you want to see?
