Why Put Off Until Tomorrow….

By | April 20, 2008

what is dry,  skeined and photographed  today? Bit of an early update. I love this time of year – the yarn dries so quickly. These lovelies and more are now in the shop. Free shipping this week on all U.S. orders $50 and over and all International orders $80 and over. Enjoy!

Josephine – 80/10/10 Merino Cashmere Nylon

Anne – 80/10/10 MCN

Barton’s Cottage – 80/10/10 MCN

Jackie – 80/10/10 MCN

80/10/10 MCN, Merino Superwash, Merino Single Ply…. all sounds so, I don’t know, sterile. What do you say we have a little yarn base naming party? Sound fun? You know there some prize yarn in it for you, right?

Let’s name Plucky’s bases yarns! I’ll take entries until 11:59 EST, Wednesday, April 23.

The bases are:

  • 80/10/10 Merino Cashmere Nylon
  • 100% Merino Superwash (fingering, sport and worsted)
  • 100% Merino single ply (lace, fingering and worsted)
  • 50/50 silk merino lace
  • 100% Blue Faced Leiceseter

Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

Now, off to skein the Plucky Classics yarn…. ships out later this week! Speaking of Plucky Classics – did you get your button yet?

 or how about this one?

Okay, you really must stop updating – how can you expect me to save money?:) Seriously, I think the Merino Superwash, to go along with your literature theme – could be Steinbeck, because I can read East of Eden over and over – just like the superwash – good wash after wash. The Cashmere/ Nylon could be Austen, something slightly aristocratic about it. And the single ply…I’ll need to think more on that:) Something more single veined or tedious…Take care!

Oh my, the new colorways are all so lovely! And me without a yarn budget this month…

I’ll have to take some time to think of some creative names for the bases. Fun contest!

moiraeknittoo on April 20, 2008 at 3:42 pm.

Hmm. I had only one name pop up, and that’s for the 80/10/10 Merino Cashmere Nylon. Perhaps “Touch of Class”? The colors are fab! Off to the shop to browse….

How about naming the base yarns after your favorite movies? Maybe a classic movie (Casablanca?) for the Merino single ply, a foreign film for the silk merino lace, Splash (or some other comedy or water-based movie) for the superwash?

Shannon on April 20, 2008 at 7:39 pm.

Ohh this is fun…some ideas: famous royals, famous actors/actresses, since I’m in the summer mood, what about naming them after tropical locations? I’ll try and think of some more.

Shannon on April 20, 2008 at 7:41 pm.

As far as your logo- I prefer the first one, with brown border!

Wow, what a great contest! Before my brainstorming turns into an obsession, I’m just going to throw out an idea. Like others, I went right to the literary/cinematic references … but then, I started thinking that maybe yarn names should be a bit more capacious; you know, to leave room for personalization via colourway.

And, since you’re Plucky, it seemed like short and sweet, with a -y ending, might be appropriate. So, how about: *Juicy, Zippy, Tangy, Zesty, and Spicy*? (And/or Nutty — that one’s the wildcard.) Apply to colourways as desired, but perhaps MCN fits with Juicy, and superwash with Zippy…

…there’s my five cents. :)

How about author names?
Jane – 80/10/10 Merino Cashmere Nylon
Charlotte – 100% Merino Superwash (fingering, sport and worsted)
Emily – 100% Merino single ply (lace, fingering and worsted)
Sylvia – 50/50 silk merino lace
Harper – 100% Blue Faced Leiceseter

(last names, in order: Austen, Bronte x2, Plath, Lee).

Or, y’know, feel free to play around with the classic author idea if you like it. :)

I can’t believe it is time for the Plucky Classics shipment! I am so excited!

I’ll think about yarn names…I haven’t been on the internet much the past few days…am in Hawaii and I won’t get home until about a week after you send the first Classics shipment! What torture!

Beautiful yarns, as always! I can’t really think of anything original, but I think the first skein looks like my favorite type of azaleas, and the green one reminds me of the fiddleheads from newly sprouted ferns. So , those are my only two names. Azalea and Fiddleheads!

ahhh your yarn is so beautiful!

krysten on April 21, 2008 at 8:40 pm.

hm, well let’s see…for the merino cashmere nylon: “Plucky Luxe”.

maybe for the merino superwash: “Plucky Polish”

for the merino single ply: “Plucky Soul”

silk merino lace: “Plucky Grace”

and the BFL: “Plucky Spirit”

yummy…now send me some!! hee hee!

You always have the best contests. I’m trying to go with a little music, literature and film classics :)
80/10/10 Merino Cashmere Nylon – Audrey (as in Audrey Hepburn)
100% Merino Superwash Frank (as in Sinatra)(fingering, sport and worsted)
100% Merino single ply (lace, fingering and worsted) Ella (as in Fitzgerald)
50/50 silk merino lace Grace (as in Kelly)
100% Blue Faced Leiceseter
Anne (As in Anne of Green Gables)

Jami Maloney on April 22, 2008 at 6:17 pm.

Lets see how about for the mcn: jane.

the merino superwash: Rhett

the silk merino lace: scarlett

the bfl: heathcliff

Jami Maloney on April 22, 2008 at 6:19 pm.

opps! The merino single ply: wesley. He was a little single ply himself.

I like the literary suggestions. I’m not especially good at thinking of names, but one thought I had was that if you wanted to be a bit less specific you could name them after types of literature or areas of the library – the superwash could be children’s literature, the merino single ply could be nonfiction, the silk merino could be poetry, etc.

Wannabe on April 25, 2008 at 1:11 pm.

I say name them after the English Kings/Queens etc because after all I’m obsessed with that now. Bwahahhaahhaah……

I also like the ideas of literary geniuses. Or all of Jane Austen’s heroines…Elizabeth Bennett(P & P), Anne Elliot(from Persuasion), Fanny Price(Mansfield Park), Elinor Dashwood (S & S),
Catherine Morland (Northanger Abbey) & Emma Woodhouse (Emma)…you could even go with the last names.
