A little success, a smidge of failure & a learning experience ~

February 26th, 2008 by Sarah

All rolled into one simple pull-over.

Pros:

  • Yarn: Karabella Aurora 8 (colorway 286 – a dark chocolate brown)
  • Pattern: (more like recipe) from Ruth at Seattle Yarn
  • Arms: They fit. And they fit well.
  • Neck: Love the little roll-neck. In fact, I am already envisioning other necklines for this top…hmmm. The mind reels.
  • Super speedy knit – so speedy it  practically knit itself. Started this on Saturday afternoon and finished on today. In fact, this could have been finished yesterday or even Sunday evening, but things like work, sleep and a major pinkie cramp stood in the way.
  • What a great layering piece. Kicky worn on its own, but I am a huge fan of layering – usually have no less than three layers of shirts on this time of year (in the summer I dial it down to just two layers). So, even though this is a tad shorter than I had intened it is still great for layering and perfect over longer tees.

Cons:

  • Cast off edge: I must be tense  (ok. There is no “must be” – I am). My cast off edge is too tight for my taste, workable, but still, not to my taste.  I was going to ask what can be done to remedy this (hoping against hope that there would be an easier remedy) but I already know. Rip and re-do  on larger needles.  Need to work up to that. Maybe this weekend.
  • Length: The sweater currently hits right at the hip bone. In a perfect world I would have liked it to hit at low hip.

You know, that’s not bad. All those pro’s and just two cons. I think another one is in order. This time in a Springish color. This really has been just the ticket to get me over my sweater phobia.

Now, back to Lu, which is just shy of half done.

And, lest you think I have no yarn for you, there will be a small shop update  in the next 24-48 hours. But, no worries, I will give everyone a proper heads-up.

Way to go!! What a great sweater, and it looks perfect on you. Love that color…

As far as bind offs, I’ve started using the Purl Bee’s recommendation and it’s the bomb:

No more tight bind off edges. The Yarn Harlot has a tutorial on this as well and it was posted on her blog a day or two later than Purl’s.

Wow, that sweater is wonderful!!! It looks like it fits you perfectly. Awesome. And you look so pretty in the picture too – your hair is fabulous.

I second “dw” in wondering if you know if the pattern is available for purchase. I have a bunch of Aurora 8 that I bought years ago on my first ever yarn store trip. I later realized it was all wrong for the pattern I intended it for – but this could be just the thing!

  22. Stacey Says:
