Make it better ~

What causes these unseemly holes? I want to make it stop… I thought I could live with the holes, but I just can’t. So, say goodbye to the sock. It will be frogged as soon as I am done typing. Any suggestions? Please tell me you have suggestions…
I have some insanely yummy Yarntini in Cherry Cordial and Vintage that I would use to make anklets – for me! However, until I know how to get rid of the offending holes, I won’t touch it! If you have not visited Jessie and seen her lovely yarn, you must!Speaking of musts – even though I have spring fever like no other, I am a little sad that the days of wearing cuddly scarves is numbered for the season. So I must find some sort of light weight spring scarf pattern….. off to look.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has that problem! Haven’t made a pair of socks in a while, partly because of this issue. Do you knit with a group – maybe they could give some answers? I’m going to ask at my group tomorrow night, but it will have to be my decription as I have no sock OTN.
BTW, I received the package today with the yarn. Thank you SO MUCH! I’m going to be looking for a pattern tonight… and its so spring/summer! YAY!

Hmm, that’s a tricky one, I will think on it. I love the yarn though – and I agree Jessie is a yarn goddess. And Scout’s Swag too – the humanity!

if you find the good light weight spring scarf pattern, don’t forget to mention it…I almost always wear a scarf and it is nicer if it is hand knitted.

You could probably knit into the back of the stitches to slightly twist it and tighten those stitches up for no holes.

I agree with Kelly – knit into the back of the stitches. And make a conscious effort to knit the 1st stitch on each needle tightly. Or try doing socks on small circs.

Yes, I usually knit into the back of the stitch if I end up with a little hole- fixes it up super easy.

I’m going to send you a scan of a bit from a Nancy Bush sock book I have — explains the “knit through the back loop” thing very well — I realized just today looking at it that I had been getting it wrong, and it looks very much like it will take care of those holes. As for a lightweight scarf pattern, I knit the Party Lace scarf from Magknits for my sister in a lace weight silk/cashmere blend (I feel a visit to Posh Yarn coming on) and it came out lovely and the perfect spring weight. another thing… it looks like you might be doing a decrease right before the end of the needle… try “k2tog, k1″ at the end of the needle, so that you are reducing the chance of those “holes”.. and also “k1, ssk” on the opposite side.. and yes, knit VERY tight when switching needles

I actually don’t knit in the front or back, but knit into the stitched decrease the stitch before the last stitch. It works. I don’t know if any other folks have done that, but it worked on mine.

i do what heather does. i learned to do socks magic loop from the “sensational knitted socks” book and it has really nice matching decreases. the book has directions on each pattern for a zillion guages, sizes, 3 dpns, 4dpns and circs…on EACH pattern. and she has a new book out, too. really easy to follow, even for dyslexic knitters like myself. and that is saying something.
