Brown Is Hard ~

5-9-07-104.jpg  This.

It may just be me, but I am finding that the right shade of  brown is hard to achieve – it can either be rusty, muddy or just plain icky. But, after several attempts I settled up the above and also some Godiva chocolatey brown yarn (pics to come later – still drying).

Couple other things  that came out of the dye pot today. They have not been named yet – working on the appropriate monikers. Any ideas?

Shelbs  is in CA – first plane trip all by herself.  Here she is just before heading off through security (and just after me crying….).

Ha ha… I would have thought that brown would be easy, because I keep reading that if you blend your colors too much it turns to mucky brown or grey.

The top skein of yarn reminds me of the caribbean ocean, and the flecks remind me of confetti. I instantly got a picture in my mind of the Love Boat (aging myself!) when they would throw the confetti overboard as they left the port. So, I’m going to say “Bon Voyage” for that one.

The second one (that is wound already) reminds me of happy kids, because I instantly pictured a little baby sweater with some chubby sweet thing wearing it… Not sure what name to make out of that, but you can run with that idea if you like it (NO HARD FEELINGS IF YOU PICK SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT!)

Have a wonderful Saturday!

im crap at names for yarns so no need to ask me lol. At first, I wasn’t sure of the brown one but after seeing it reskeined, i love it,,,really love it. Yes..agree with Amanda..they are like confetti, was going to name one of my dyes “something” confetti :) but honestly girl…your dyes are wonderful…puts mine to shame

The top skein reminds me of a river. I think you should call it river’s edge or something like that. The variation from the side of the banks of a river which are a shade of the olivy brown then progress into being a bit lighter in the shallows to darker in the heart of a river.

I like Amanda’s idea of Bon Voyage or Carnivale or something for the second one. It really does remind me of something tropical.

You are doing such an awesome job of dyeing!!! :)

Have a fabulous day darlin’! Mwah.

Oh P.S. Love that pic of you and Shelbs.

The one on the right reminds me of when I was sick and I would color in these terrific coloring books my mom got me. They were like vintage rock posters, only I got to add the psychadelic colors! I usually went either warm (red, orange, yellow, hot pink) or cool (blue, green, purple.)

So, how about naming it “Cool Babe” or “Groovy Cool” or some such nonsense.

Blessings,
Susan

I’m guessing Shelbs is your daughter? That pic reminds me of the one of my dd and I, as we saw her off at DFW, just before heading to Germany, 2 1/2 years ago. Mom (me) was blubbering, and Nikki (dd) was raring to go and spread her wings. It’s hard when the chicks get big enough to leave the nest on their own!

Gorgeous yarn!

Using your own words, I think the wound one looks “kicky!” (Is that how you spelled it?)

Yay for Shelbie! Hang 10!

terific job of dying…looks very professional. I like confetti i was thinking of cotton candy or reserve that name for a pink skein. great job.

I have so much trouble with browns too! You are dyeing such lovely yarns, I love watching you progress through the colors :) Too much fun!
