2010 already. Seriously? Huh? Excuse me while I wrap my brain around that…..In the meantime let’s have a contest. Now doesn’t that sound like a festive way to start off a new week, month and year?
With a little help from a friend (ok, a lot of help) my studio was cleaned and I can now see the top of my desk! Dare I say, it’s actually cute and I’m amazed at what has been unearthed. Which has me wondering:
What’s on your desk (night stand, end table, coffee table)? What’s the funniest/oddest/coolest thing you’ve found there? What would you like to have on your desk?
Contest will be open until Thursday, January 7th at 12:00 a.m. Eastern. What spoils await the winner(s)? Yarn, of course. New year, new yarn bases!!! But, that’s all I’m going to say for now…..

My coffee table is a bit messy right now since it doubles as my PC table too. So I have the PC monitor there plus the keyboard, two framed photographs of my kids and one of me and my husband. But the cutest thing on that table has got to be the mini Christmas sweater I knitted last year for our tree and the little teddy bear, about 2.5 inches high, wearing it. The sweater has a “P” duplicate stitched on it, stands for Patrick, my son’s name.
By the way, I am loving your yarn which I acquired via Irishgirlieknits. I haven’t knit anything with it yet but I keep caressing it. I promise I will knit with it soon!

My nightstand has a book, a stitching project, and a sock on the needles. What would I like to have on it? I’m ok with what’s there. I’d like to not have an alarm clock on it though (but only if I could maintain my fiber habits at the same time).
Happy 2010!

Don’t you just love a clean desk! Well, mine has yarn yarn yarn and more yarn. And quite a few stacks of knitting books!! One of my favorite things on there is a picture of Snowboarder and I on our first holiday in the snow together and he’s wearing a hat I knit for him.
Happy happy new year Sarah!!

Your contest has pulled me out of my Google Reader lurkdom.
Because I tend to be a clutterbug, I use a small desk, so there’s no space for clutter to collect. As a result, not much exciting is on my desk. The ‘cutest’ thing on my desk is a ladybug timer that friend and former neighbor gave me for Christmas a few years ago. It’s shiny, and bright red and black. It’s little face makes me smile each time I look at it, and I use it to time mself when doing computer work for a part-time online job I have.

nightstand – clock radio , light , lip balm, foot cream, books to read, book mark , photo of granddaughter and no space left at all. But with all that I can stay in bed for a long time

On my nightstand… a half knitted hat, a box of Kleenex, 2 cough drops, 3 books, my iPod, a pacifier, a pair of ear plugs and a fairy wand. I keep waving the wand over my nose to make it stop running, my children to make them play nicely together, the hat to make it finished by Thursday and my dog to make her clean without actually having to put her in the tub. It seems to be malfunctioning.

Right now the coolest thing on my desk is a sock design I’m coming up with followed by cute rubber duckie coin bank.
Eventually, I’d like to unpack and get the rest of my stuff on my desk.

I think I described my desk last time, so I’ll do my coffee table this time. It has a centre piece flat bowl on which I have some postcards of old Berlin and some handspun skeins, some magazines, a few candles and my camera, so I can capture some of the many different views I can see all over my office.

seriously, where did 2009 go?! yikes! sadly, everything i own is all over the place due to a whole house renovation in progress right now. so, i have no desk or nightstand to speak of!
happy new year!

My desk is covered in all the magazines I didn’t read in 2009! Maybe I can read them all by the end of 2010?

My desk is a partially unpacked mess – we moved 3 months ago. Things of note are a ball winder, my mending pile, and some clear space which I hope will grow. My desk is transforming from a rarely used(at the old place) storage place, to a craft center for knitting & cardmaking.

Nightstand? A Japanese, blue and white flowered paper pencil holder; a stack of eight new books (Christmas loot!) an Impressionist coaster; the control for my electric bedpad (mmmmm…!; a tapestry needle; two random sock needles, c. size 2.

At any given moment, the following things can be found on my nightstand – my laptop, magazines, knitting patterns, pens, a nail file, various knitting notions, usually a few pairs of knitting needles, and of course the TV remote! I’d love to start keeping less there, but I’ve only got a 300 sq ft apartment, so my nightstand is a pretty all purpose surface in my life!

On my nightstand arevampire books,a glow in the dark sheep,a japanese jewellery box,Russian stacking dolls and a bottle of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku lovers perfume.
Annette on January 5, 2010 at 10:44 pm.
My nightstand always has a box of kleenex, the latest book(s) I’m reading, an alarm clock and a picture of my husband.
The favorite thing on my desk is the “easy” button from Staples. You press it and it says “that was easy”.
Oh, and a magic 8 ball!
catsnrabbits on January 6, 2010 at 7:48 am.
My nightstand is small and crammed with a lamp and clockradio so there is little room for much else. A pair of glasses, a stack of books that I have finished reading and the occasional kitten who seems to think the clockradio is a nice place to sit.
kim on January 6, 2010 at 10:39 am.
My nightstand stays simple – a lamp, clock and magazine of choice. The desk is organized “piles”….patterns, bills, a download of a book to read, ipod, & yes – a chalk for marking metal to cut?!? not sure how that ended up there!! Happy New Year!
susan on January 6, 2010 at 11:05 am.
I have a table next to where I sit to use laptop, watch TV and knit.
Contents today are:
lamp
glass dish with nuts
nut crackers
pin cushion – present for friend
pins – to go with the cushion
hand cream, lavender
box of stitch markers
cat collar
cat laser light that they love to chase
my pin box
two tubs of cat treats
a mobile phone
tablets – have cold at moment
camera
pen
knitting note book
cup of tea
And often there is a cat attached to the cup of tea, he loves cold/luke warm tea.
I think I have to say that a tea loving cat called Peter is the most unusual thing, and most delightful thing to have found on the table.

Oh boy! On my desk I currently have a “page a day calendar” stuck on November 23, 2009. i guess I need to catch up a bit!
Strangest thing would be a collection of cold accoutrements – toilette paper rolls, Halls, aleve, on my desk long after I got better… I’m talking months before I put it all away.
Right now, I would really like some new cashmere yarn and graph paper to be on my nightstand!
Happy new year!

My desk at work, my desk at work. I know there is one there or all the clutter and my computer are just floating in mid air, but, it’s been years since I saw it.
I’m always too busy to clean it (sigh)
Kathleen on January 6, 2010 at 8:10 pm.
My desk has piles of papers, a perpetual calendar with apples on it (a gift from a student), pictures of my children, textbooks, a can with pencils and markers, stapler, tape, and a rubber rat (gift from my son).
Melissa on January 6, 2010 at 8:35 pm.
On my desk at work, all the usual office supplies plus LOTS of dust. Also lots of coffee and tea and miscellaneous snacks. And the walls are decorated with photos and mini skeins of yarn.
MAKW on January 6, 2010 at 9:32 pm.
I don’t have too many interesting things on my desk. Right now there is a gorgeous plant, a happy meal toy (an Easter Island-ish guy) and pictures of my daughter and my husband. Oh, and five billion post it notes.
Rachel O on January 6, 2010 at 10:00 pm.
Right now my desk is my lap. I bought one of those lap desks to put my laptop on and I sit on the couch and do my work. So on my “desk” is my laptop and mouse.
Marla on January 6, 2010 at 11:47 pm.
My desk holds mail, a phone, two shelves mounted above hold a coconut shell bowl filled with chap stick, a box from El Salvador holding pencils and markers, lots of photos, a Superman figure and my eldest son’s high school graduation tassel. My desk’s only function is to hold things, no working.
Leonie on January 7, 2010 at 12:40 am.
The best thing on my night table at the moment is the box of Lindt mini chocolate squares which are my go to when I need just a little hit of chocky…yummo!!
Pebbledash on January 7, 2010 at 3:54 am.
Desk: imac, heap of wool and unfinished mitts, wooden christmas card, camera, wool scraps, patterns, mobile, landline, address file, diary, dead batteries…you get the picture, it’s chaos! I would like just the imac, a notebook, phone, the essentials really. And a candle.
Happy new year!

My desk holds normal clutter – computer, papers, but also plants to cheer it up.
EJ on January 7, 2010 at 11:19 am.
I have so much stuff on my desk, you can’t see the top. The most interesting – weirdest thing? I huge jar of soy protein powder. I cannot fathom where it came from and when it appeared.
Diana on January 7, 2010 at 11:51 am.
My desk has piles and piles of paper everywhere. You have to love year end! Nothing weird just typical desk stuff;paper, pens and lots of colorful highlighters.
Anett Kiefer on January 8, 2010 at 2:05 am.
My nightstand is covered with books and on my desk you can find – besides my dictionaries that I need for working – pattern books and self-spun yarn.
Greetings from Germany (I never manage to see what beautiful yarn you offer in your shop because it’s always empty when I take a look …)

Please don’t make me talk about my desk – I will probably cry! I have piles and piles – and every pile requires hours of my time before it can get put where it belongs. Thank God you didn’t ask for a picture-I’m usually very tidy (really!)
