Spring is in the air~

By | February 5, 2009

It sure doesn’t feel like it, what with the thermometer registering zero yesterday morning and then hitting a high of only 20⁰F (nippy if I do say so) today. But, when Bob comes home with flower seeds and grand garden plans, you know it must be just around the corner, right?

Are you dreaming of your Spring garden? What are you going to plant? Veggies? Flowers? Herbs? Anything and everything? Are you going to can or freeze? Do tell… I’d love to hear about your plans. We are ripping out all our raised beds and containers as soon as things thaw and start from scratch – it’s rather daunting….

I’m planting eggplants, beans, pumpkins and some flowers, which I just started from seed, and 6 tomato plants from transplant. super excited, since last year’s garden was a bit of a bust.

We’ll grow corn, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, melons, really as much as we can fit!

I don’t have a yard to plant in..but if I did my dream garden would be green beans, peppers, tomatos and lots of bright and low maintenance flowers of all colors.

I’m sorry, it was hard to hear anything you said after I saw those amazing red Morning Glories on the cover of that book! I’ve always declared Heavenly Blue Morning Glory’s to be my favorite flower, but I’d never seen red ones before. Must..find..those!

I can’t wait to plant a garden this year! Remember my cute retro potting shed/play house? We will be digging for some raised bed gardens in that area in the next few weeks. Plans? Tomatoes, sugar snap peas, chard, sunflowers, spinach, you name it, I’ll try and fit it in!
love the new studio! I’ll miss you next week!

I live in a condo – no planting here. If I did – flowers and zuchinni certainly :)

Ooh just the thought of planting spring flowers brings a smile to my face :-) I want to try and grow herbs again this year, and hopefully have more success. Plus of course tomatoes, peppers, melons, and lots of other goodies really!

I’m a truly awful gardener, but I love seeing what other people plant and harvest! I planted bulbs back in the fall and I’m looking forward to them popping up. And I always try some herbs or two, depending on what is available – I got an extra thyme plant from a friend, or took home some pansies from an event, which actually grew very nicely. Mostly though, I watch other people garden. :)

We live in Wisconsin. The Northwoods to be exact. Spring is a long long way off for us. There will still be snow on the ground for months. The last snow usually falls Easter weekend. So, it’s hard to think that far ahead. But feeling like i was missing out on all the green stuff, we purchased last week an AeroGarden to grow herbs and tomatoes. So, we’re already planted and have sprouts.

Oh, you are so lucky to have a garden! I’m not even allowed to put anything on my Brooklyn fire escape (landlords live below us). I did grow lots of herbs at my window sill though!

I can’t wait for some homegrown tomatoes. I always can salsa – so I can eat them through the fall. Good luck with your garden!

we do brocolli & tomatoes from prepacks, and from seed peas and green beans. Had good success with swiss chard and beets also. Carrots have been a sleeper success since we never expect them to get very big.

I sure hope spring is around the corner…….I just am afraid we have some more snow ahead.

Tomato plants, basil, catnip, sage, strawberries, parsley and lots of peppers. We have a Santa Rosa plum tree, a variegated lemon tree, Blenheim apricots, green figs, plantains and bananas. Right now we are finishing the navel oranges.

In Portland, OR except for some snow today, its been postively springish. Need to move my precious rhubarb as we’re going to really till and update the garden this year. Maybe I’ll even splurge on Brandywines which are dodgy for the length of our growing season but they taste sooo good. I’ve become madly in love with peppers of all kind and they don’t overwhelm you like zucchini and tomatoes, so the more the merrier. Potatoes and carrots are my favorites but with clay soil, they are a risky proposition. Oh and the kids get to pick what they want. That’s always interesting. 8-) Fun times ahead!

We’ll be growing a lot of vegetables for the freezer.

It’ll be quite a while before we can plant them, though, so in the meantime I’m looking forward to asparagus and rhubarb.
